Separation of Church and State

Bring up any public issue in which the Bible or faith is referred, and you will most likely hear, “But separation of Church and State!” For years many have promoted the notion that the United States was built upon a secular, non-religious government.

It simply isn’t true.

Christianity is deeply ingrained in this nation. It is deeply a part of our constitution. Alexis De Tocqueville a French Statesmen wrote, “Religion in America takes no direct part in the government of society, but it must nevertheless be regarded as the foremost of the political institution of that country; for if it does not impart a taste for freedom, it facilitates the use of free institutions.” (The Founder’s Bible)

Freedom, or more precisely, liberty, has been given to us by God, not the government. It is one of our unalienable rights. “Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.” (2 Cor 3:17) It is spiritual. It is also very practical. When Jesus set us free, it blesses our family, our friends and neighbors, our communities…and yes, even our government.
